Bainbridge Gets Creative: Meghann Riepenhoff
In this moment of year end reflection, we remind ourselves that 2020 opened a stream of dormant creativity in our community. This creativity has fueled our resilience and our ability to continue to move forward in the darkest of times. Enjoy a few of our favorite stories about how some of Bainbridge Island’s best and brightest were able to overcome obstacles in 2020.
“For me, one of the biggest challenges of this time is missing my beloveds. On a walk one day, I came upon a discarded wood sign that happened to read one of my dear friend’s names. I was really missing her, so it felt serendipitous to have a literal sign show up like that.
I took the sign home with me and decided I would send it to her when she needed a pick-me-up. Then my husband suggested that I start taking pictures with it. It is about two feet long—just the perfect size to wrap my arm around as though I’m posing for a selfie with her.
So now when I miss my people, I take a picture with the sign. I’ve laughed and I’ve cried in those pictures. The whole process is just ridiculous enough to feel appropriate for 2020 (especially considering that I found the sign with the garbage) and I can’t wait to give my friend a photo album of all the times we “hung out” this weirdo year.”
